Mrs. Leona Doner is the Founder and Executive Director of Shepherd Care Medical Clinic (SCMC) located in Zebulon, NC. Established in 2010, the clinic focuses on providing health care to patients 18-64 years old with no medical insurance. SCMC is the first, and so far the only one, organization in the town of Zebulon serving as a free medical clinic for this sector of the population. She was named the 2013 Citizen of the Year at the Zebulon Chamber of Commerce’s annual awards banquet for her contributions to the community. Leona brings over 20 years of caring-serving patients as a nurse at various health care institutions. Prior to founding SCMC, she worked as a Hospice Nurse for United Hospice (Rocky Mount-NC) and at 3HC Home Health Hospice (Raleigh-NC), where she served as a nurse to the most vulnerable patients and supported their families in the process. She also worked for Tammy Lynn Center (Raleigh-NC) as a Staff Nurse for Children with disabilities, where she provided the highest level of quality and attention to her patients. Her passions for patients in need as well as her community were key factors in moving Leona to establish SCMC as a Non-Profit Organization. She studied at Auburn Community College (Aubun-NY) and Wake Community College (Raleigh-NC), where she took courses in Nursing, Drug and Alcohol Abuse, and Computer Proficiency.
